Friends Soccer Academy was established in the town of Lugazi, Uganda, to develop the rich, natural abilities found in itsyouths. Volunteers from Sweden, the UK and Uganda are working together to build the academy to its maximum potential. Over the years, Lugazi has been the source of many players on the Ugandan National Football Team, despite the lack of training and development programmes.
The academy offers a 12-month programme where youths from all over the country come to learn to play football, including ball skills, technique and stamina. Some of our students are enrolled in schools where they are trained as professionals in many diverse fields. A number of them have excelled and now hold degrees and diplomas.
In addition to the soccer academy, we coordinate other youth programmes throughout the year, including soccer camps and friendly matches. And we are now in the process of starting a first division football club that will compete in the Nation Football League of Uganda.
